Sprouting Roots Speech Therapy is a private practice speech and language clinic located in Newport News, VA. We offer quality speech and language services in a safe and nurturing environment for children ages birth-21. At Sprouting Roots Speech Therapy, during this unprecedented time, your health is our number one priority, and in addition to our in-person services, we also provide teletherapy services. We strive to provide therapy that utilizes the environment around us to create naturalistic communication opportunities.
Speech and Language Evaluation
Sprouting Roots Speech Therapy provides comprehensive speech and language evaluations. Our therapists use a detailed case history, an in-depth caregiver interview, standardized assessments, non-standardized measures and observation to provide a diagnosis and/or to determine if speech and language services are warranted. If speech and language services are needed a plan of care will be initiated.

Sprouting Roots Speech Therapy provides individualized speech and language services to address the specific needs of each child and target personalized, developmentally appropriate goals. Sprouting Roots is an evidence-based practice that implements our clinical expertise, evidence from scientific literature, and our patients’ values and priorities to provide exemplary speech and language therapy to our patients and their families. Training and education, as well as a home carryover program, is provided to our families.

Stephanie Thorne, M.S., CCC-SLP
Stephanie Thorne has eleven years of experience in the field of speech and language pathology. She graduated from James Madison University in 2006 with a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies with a minor in Early Childhood Education. In 2007 she graduated with a Bachelor’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She earned a Masters of Science in Speech Language Pathology from James Madison University in 2009. She is licensed to practice in Virginia through the Department of Health Professions and is a member of ASHA, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She specializes in the treatment of dyslexia and reading disorders, articulation and early language delays. She resides in Gloucester with her husband, Josh and two children, Arabella and Asher.
Maegan Branton, M.S., CCC-SLP
Maegan Branton was born and raised in the Hampton Roads community. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree from Old Dominion University in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology with a minor in Special Education. She went on to earn her Masters of Science degree from Radford University in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2005. During her studies, she had the opportunity to complete research and attend an Operation Smile Mission working with children with Cleft Palate and middle ear disease. She is licensed to practice in Virginia through the Department of Health Professions and is a member of ASHA, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She has fifteen years of professional experience in the field of Speech Language Pathology. Over the past fifteen years, Maegan has worked in an outpatient pediatric hospital where she has had the pleasure of treating a wide variety of diagnoses. She is trained in the Orton-Gillingham method for diagnosing and treating dyslexia and other related reading and writing disorders. She is trained in the treatment of Voice Disorders with speciality training in treating Vocal Cord Dysfunction, VCD. She currently resides in Newport News Virginia with her husband, Cleve, three children, Grayson, Adelyn and Scout and their dog, Opal.

We will bill you directly, and payment is due when you get your invoice. We will provide you with an invoice that has all the codes needed for insurance reimbursement, but it is always best to verify with your insurance company beforehand to find out your covered benefits for speech therapy. Payment will be due upon receipt of your invoice.
